Dream Of
A Burned Forest
2022 | 2023
"Dream of a Burned Forest" is a collection consisting of 20 abstract and 3D paintings, along with 3 installations. In this collection, inspired by the nature of the Niagara region, I strive to capture the emotional journey of people who are forced to leave their homes in search of a better future. Just like a burned forest that can flourish again with care, the human spirit, too, can heal and grow with hope.
I used abstract landscapes to convey this message, as living through and adapting to natural challenges; much like the immigrant’s journey, is never easy. Migrants must harmonize with new environments and overcome every obstacle simply to survive. The hard edges in my work symbolize the personal struggles and twists each individual faces. The large trees represent the larger obstacles they encounter along the way, while the orange rivers metaphorically represent those who find their path through difficulty; navigating between all these sharp edges and heavy barriers. Like rivers that never stop and always find a way forward, they embody hope, determination, and resilience.
I hope each of us can keep our inner hope alive and allow it to guide us through every challenge, believing in the power of hope, a force that reminds us that even in the face of deep loss, a single spark can help us rise, rebuild, and move forward.
This body of work, honored in the summer of 2023 with the Best of Student Award from TOAF, the Marie Collins Memorial Award, and the Artscape Award.
